Best if you don't attempt to communicate with my uncles, even if it's to thank them. Words cannot properly express how much they detest foreigners, Americans specifically. Their recent run-ins with your "Greenpeace" terrorist organization have soured them even further.
I would expect that you will be met at the Kyoto dockyard by intermediaries, but should you have the misfortune of actually physically encountering my uncles, my advice is to avoid eye contact and be silent.
